Pursuit night!

Pursuit night is upon us in 5 days! As with every previous season, I'll post a rundown of how the night works so everybody will have seen it before they get there. It's especially important given our numbers last year and at the first sprint night that everybody knows what to do and when to be at the start lines.

Gates will open at 6:15.

Registration opens at 6:30 and closes at 7. I will be very strict about this! I will be racing this year also, so I need to have time to warm up. $10 for the night, $5 to rent a bike, free with season pass.

Open warmup all night long (even during racing). After 7:20, if you warm up on the track you MUST stay above the blue line as people will be racing in the sprinters lane. Under no circumstances can somebody "warming up" pace/motivate/assist somebody racing.

Road/TT/tri bikes ARE PERMITTED for the race! However, they may not be used on the track during warmup or cooldown. Also, per USA Cycling rules, if a bike with gears is used, the rider MAY NOT SHIFT at any point while on the track. Trust me, we will hear it.

Each rider is permitted to do UP TO 2 events, no more. In the event we get done at a reasonable time, we can run some team events (team pursuit, team sprint) if there are teams already organized.

You do not need to wear your numbers, but you must KNOW your number. If you don't have one yet, we'll be giving them out also.

Start lists will be posted on the board. The starters/timers do not have a copy of this. That means if you want your times to be correct, you have to show up at the start location in the correct order.

Likewise, we will be VERY strict this year about starting on time. Do not be late to your start! If the other rider is on time and gets ready before you show up, we'll run the race without you and I will not re-run you. This is the same way it works at the big events. I recommend being at the start location before the rider ahead of you finishes.

For this first night, we will do:

500m
2000m
1000m
3000m

All of the events are run as a time trial, not a proper pursuit (for now, later in the season this may change to mix it up). In other words, if you get caught it doesn't matter because the time is what counts.

Starting in June, the 3000m will become a 4000m. As we get close to national events (juniors, masters, collegiate, elite), for people who are planning on going, I will run their official distances if they request it.

If you have any suggestions for events, feel free to post here.

I look forward to seeing everybody suffering on Tuesday!

Historical Pursuit times

So my love of spreadsheets means I created a historical record of all the DLV times.

Times are listed below as the mean / standard deviation (number of times averaged)

500m = 42.67 / 3.1 (102)
1k = 1:26.1 / 7.6 (86)
2k = 2:56.6 / 13.5 (114)
3k = 4:26.9 / 16.4 (93)
4k = 5:41 / 21.3 (34)

The data is a little skewed from a normal distributed curve toward a lower average. This is probably because its a tuesday night and there are many beginners but its slight and I'm too lazy to "fix" it all mathematically and go all super stats on it. Maybe later.
