Pursuit night feedback
With the first pursuit night in the books, I wanted to give some feedback to everybody on some observations/tips that I noticed.
First, thanks to everybody (especially those who helped hold and time) for being on time and at the start locations! The first pursuit night last year finished at 11:30pm, this year at 9:30pm! For the record, 9:30pm is our target finish time, it just took us a few months to get everybody there last year.
Generally speaking, there were two issues that I saw multiple times.
The first issue is positioning on the bike. For those with aerobars, remember there are rules on how stretched out you can be. When on the bars, your elbows have to be at 90 degrees and your hands must be level or above level (hands cannot be down at all). Also, focus hard on keeping your back flat and if you have an aero helmet, focus on keeping your head up so the helmet lies flat across your back.
The second issue is the starts. Standing starts have been an issue for almost everybody for as long as I've been doing pursuit nights, so nobody should feel bad about it! It's something that the only way to improve is to do a lot of them and watch a lot of them. I recommend everybody check out:

to see how a good standing start works. Every time you practice them, keep adding one more element from the presentation until it's perfect. Then add another. Eventually you will build up the proper technique.
