First Track Bike (54cm-55cm)

Hey All,
I'm very new looking to start racing this coming spring here at DLV, but I am without a bike and a complete newb and don't know much about what makes a solid track bike. I am planning to get my hands on a race-ready rig ASAP, but trying to stay in and around the $500 range for an entry-level steal, and maybe $750-$1k if I'll never buy another bike or have to upgrade.
Based on the few bikes I've ridden and my current road bike, I'm thinking a 54cm or maybe 55cm would be ideal, but I understand no two frames are alike. Any adivce or suggestions are quite welcome.
Height: ~5'10' (177cm)
Inseam: 33" (83cm) in cycling shorts
Thanks. Collin.

Hi Colin, great to hear your
Hi Colin, great to hear your interest in the velodrome. You would ride the same size track bike that you do on the road, which by your height I would guess to be around the 55cm mark. A couple of shops sell a variety of track bikes, Outback Bikes in Little 5pts and No Brakes over in Grant Park, you can link to their website to the right here. Also check out teamekazane.com they are a sponsor of ours here at the velodrome, and have some nice steel frames and componenets relatively cheap. If you have further questions or need some advice on a particular bike, email me, jeff@dicklanevelodrome.com . Looking forward to having you.
