ATTENTION USCF CATEGORY 4-5 RIDERS, INCLUDING ALL WOMEN OPEN RIDERS!

A message from the promoter and head official regarding the expert races for Saturday Night Festival of Speed. Note: any category 4 or competitive or better rider can race in the sprint tournament on Friday night.

First, no USCF category 5 or "New Track Racer" Category riders will be allowed to race at any Festival of Speed.

Who is the EXPERT F.o.S Field intended for?
The Festival of Speed is intended for experienced category 3-4 riders who have been racing in our EXPERT field.
With some exceptions for very experienced COMPETITIVE riders and riders who have raced past FoS events. It is not nor has ever been intended for all riders. One reason we do not make this a USCF event is that we would either have to allow or turnaway all Category 4 riders. Please don't make us choose to do this as we will make it only category 3 riders at the FoS and that is not what we want to do. KNOW YOUR ABILITY AND RESPECT YOUR FELLOW RIDERS.

WHY?
The Festival of Speed is not a Wednesday night race. It is faster , more competitive and much more aggressive. If you are having a hard time staying with the group on Wednesday nights in the competitive field you will have a much harder time at the FoS.

Ask yourself these questions if you are unsure

  1. Can you maintain a 23-24mph average for more than 10 laps and sprint 30-35mph while holding a straight line and not drifting up?
  2. Do you fully understand all the track rules and etiquette?
  3. Are you experienced at any other type of racing? Road, Mtn. Bike, Track, Cross? If so, would you consider this experience quality?
  4. Do you feel that you can handle your track bike in a pack of 20 or more riders? If someone where to cut you off or come down on you, do you know what to do or how to handle yourself and your bike? Do you feel bumping or contact is not part of racing? Just so you know it is.
  5. Are you comfortable in the knowledge that if you mess up, you could seriously hurt someone else? While this can happen to even the best of riders, odds are that someone with little track experience could jeopardize the safety of the entire pack.

Again please understand that this event is not for everyone. The EPVA tries very hard to hold events for all riders at some point in the season. Please do not make the FoS your first race of the season.

So again, I'm not saying no to anyone who has raced beyond our New Beginner category this year and our “C” category last year, but I am strongly discouraging most of our Competitive riders to sit the Festival out and as the head official for the night, if I see anyone riding erratic or putting any other rider in danger, I will first let them know what they are doing wrong, if it continues I will ask them the second time to get off the track and sit out the rest of the night. Any rider who I feel is out of contention in any event will be asked to get off the track for that particular race which is pretty standard.

I hope this clarifies. Please do not makes us go to USCF categories and not allow any Category 4 riders. Just because you passed a beginner's class and got your Category 4 license, does not give you the experience you need at the FoS.

thank you for your understanding
